From Caregiver to Connector: How Community Became My Calling
Let me paint you a picture:
I’m juggling three stepdaughters, three little ones of my own, caregiving for my dad and mother-in-law, and still somehow dreaming of building a business. I’ve got vision. I’ve got passion. What I don’t have is a degree, YET.
So I did the only thing I knew to do. I enrolled in college at 39 and launched my business in the same season.
Why? Because I saw the gap. I saw the nonprofit leader who didn’t know what to post. The private practice owner who hated social but needed it to grow. And I knew that I had something to offer: experience, energy, and a serious knack for relationship-building that started in the room and extended to the field.
I built Higher Social with a simple promise: Your story deserves to be seen, and you don’t have to burn out to share it.
But this isn’t just a work story. It’s a calling story.
My work in community engagement, especially through vendor events and volunteering with the Alzheimer’s Association, has shown me that marketing can be a ministry when done right. Every post, every DM, every blog like this one is a chance to lift someone up, guide them forward, or give them the clarity they’ve been craving.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
